Investigation Launched Against Actress Berna Laçin Over "İzmir" Post: Police Search Her Residence
The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office launched an investigation into actress Berna Laçin over her social media post. Police searched her residence and took her into custody.

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office has launched a judicial investigation against actress and presenter Berna Laçin over a social media post regarding İzmir, alleging "incitement of the public to hatred and hostility." Police teams searched her residence and took her into custody for questioning.
As part of ongoing social media monitoring, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office initiated judicial proceedings against prominent Turkish actress Berna Laçin. The investigation was formally launched under relevant provisions of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK) following public reactions to her statement.
Reason for Investigation: "İzmir Was Occupied Before"
The judicial action stems from remarks posted by Laçin following İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay’s transition to the AK Party. Commenting on the political development via her social media account, Laçin wrote, "İzmir was occupied before as well, Do not fear!"
Following the statement, the prosecutor's office opened a case file under Article 216 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which criminalizes "incitement of the public to hatred and hostility or humiliation".
Residence Searched, Transferred to Police Department
Acting on prosecutorial instructions, law enforcement officers conducted a search and seizure operation at Berna Laçin’s residence. Announcing the development on her social media account, Laçin stated, "They are coming to detain me and searching my house; I don't understand what is happening."
Upon completion of the search and initial digital media examination at her home, Laçin was transferred to the police department to provide her statement. The judicial investigation remains ongoing.
